Kylie May and a Kylieless Date Day 108

Sometimes in movies (or possibly real life) there is this scene where everyone wakes up, gets ready, has breakfast, leaves the house, and about twenty minutes down the road realizes, “OMG! Where’s the baby!?”  Today we can sympathize with those Hollywood (or real life) parents.  No no no.  It isn’t because we actually left and forgot Kylie somewhere.  I mean, come on! What type of parents do you take us for anyway?  I know we may not be the brightest crayons in the “parenting box”, but there’s a spot in the box for all the colors.

Since March 9th (her birthday for those who would like a refresher) it has been Kylie time, but today we actually had our first Kylieless date since the big event.  Thus, the connection to the parents that realize their child is forgotten.  The entire brunch we had this small underlying feeling that something was missing.  And indeed she was missing (from the brunch), but it just so happens that she was lost in the capable hands of Uncle Graham and Aunt Jess.  Nat and I followed the advice given to us by Jess and attempted to spend at least five minutes conversing about something other than our wonderful child.  ….Hmmm?....silence…oh!…remember when she…never mind…silence…there must be something…J Only joking.  We actually had a really nice conversation about us, life, work, and our time together on this mini vacation.  Sure, we missed the petite bebe, but we also had the realization that if we are not purposeful about OUR relationship the next 20 years will pass us by without either of us remembering to really enjoy the company of the one we signed up to do this whole parenting thing with. I imagine a self-appointed “date night” will be appearing on our calendar soon. Thanks Graham and Jess for watching her today! It sounds like Kylie was well entertained.

After brunch, the family joined forces again and had a nice little walk around downtown Ashland (Kylie slept in the backpack pretty much the whole time), before heading back over to Wynnwood (the name of her complex) to see great grandma Jo.  Great grandma treated Gma Carol, Aunt Sue, Nat, and I all to a nice dinner at Shari’s this evening.  It has been really fun sitting at meals and listening to great grandma share some stories about her life, her kids, and her old memories.  Guess what Kylie did? Yep.  She slept through most of dinner.  You know,….it’s the little things in life (like getting to use both hands to eat) that sometimes go under appreciated.  It is amazing how much faster and more accurate (I only spilled twice) eating is when you use both hands.  Wow!

Post dinner activities included some very happy Kylie kicking, smiling, and bubble blowing time.  Great grandma also got to watch the video of Kylie’s birth (Kylie had to close her eyes for a couple parts), and she commented on how amazing it was that we “didn’t hold her by her feet and slap her bottom, like they used to do”.  Great grandma has seen a lot of births in her time, and was pretty impressed with the great job Nat did.

We hit the road tomorrow (after one last breakfast at great grandmas, and a final farewell to all her Wynnwood fans) for the long trek back to Redlands, and Kylie is resting up now so she can have her good cry ready to go for tomorrow’s car ride (I hope I am only joking).  She has been a trooper, and I’m sure tomorrow will be no different.  I’m off to join my sleeping beauties.

More to come soon,

-Craig-

p.s. we always call her a little monkey, but today she actually lived up to the name. She made the realization that she has been under utilizing her assets, and for the first time, began sucking on her toes.  (Another big "first" in her little life).  This trip she has learned to suck her thumb and her toes....oh the places she will go.

I think someone one bet her that they could shoot the apple off her head

they won!

Even busy little girls can't resist a little air mattress nap from time to time

Don't be fooled.  This was actually taken today, not pre March 9 2012

who doesn't like a blank stare into space from time to time

I think great grandma was telling her all about how she gives candy to good little girls...enough to put a little smile on anyone's face

Caught in the act.  These little smiles happen to be pretty contagious

Just remember how funny your mom is when she is telling you to clean your room someday...ok?
