Kylie May and Her First Father's Day 101

Reminders.  They are everywhere. The calendar reminds us which day of the week it is,  the weekend reminds us to slow down and enjoy life a little, the oven timer reminds us that the cookies are done, the weather outside reminds us that the seasons are changing,  your iPhone will send a reminder for anything else that you could fathom forgetting, and the holidays (even the Hallmark, made up ones) remind us to appreciate something.  So.  Father's Day (hmm...term holiday used loosely on this one.).  For this first time father, it was a reminder to take a minute and remember how special it is to have the privilege of being a dad.  To aid in the memory process, and to show that they care, Nat (and I'll say Kylie) had everyone in the family record a small video clip of them saying "Happy Father's Day, and why they thought I was a good Dad".  Nat took all the small clips, compiled them into one big one, added some footage of Kylie, and created a very fun, entertaining, and touching Father's Day gift. Thanks Nat and Kylie!

Nat was a trooper all morning.  She worked all night, stayed awake long enough to have a quick Father's Day breakfast at Mimi and Papas (which is always fun and delicious),  went to church with Kylie, uncle Kyle and I, then came home and got some much needed sleep. Of course, Kylie is never one to miss out on some good sleeping time, so, she convinced me to let her back into bed, and she started in on her favorite two things (Eating and Nursing).  Since I've read that novel (yes, when Kylie begins nursing and sleeping it is a novel not a short children's book) I knew I had some time, so Papa Gene came over and sat in the living room waiting for Kylie to wake up, while Uncle Kyle, Art (also a dad), and I all went to catch a Sunday matinee.  It was fun to go to the theater again (first one since the big BIRTH-day), but I might slightly regret my decision to pass on a nap and go to the show.

After a little BBQ dinner, Nat was back to work (another all-nighter), Kyle, Art, Kylie and I were left to watch the NBA finals.  It is pretty funny (and a little disturbing), but Kylie loves watching basketball and baseball these days.  She will crane her neck, from anywhere in the room, to watch the TV, and then she just stares at it with her mouth drooped open (yep. sometimes even a little drool comes out).  we call her our little "mush brained" child when she does this. To counteract the mush brain, I quickly called in some help from an old friend (Dr. Seuss) and distracted her with a distractable (Dr. Seuss made up his own words too. Ok?) rendition of the ABC Book.  That, and a walk outside was all it took to get her mind off the tube and have her fall sound asleep (for a few minutes at least).

Ah....sleep. Oh Yeah! and Reminders.  Nat was gone, the game ended, Uncle Kyle and Art were gone (thanks again for visiting this weekend Kyle), and I was left alone with my little princess.  The glamor of Father's Day had ended and I was reminded that sometimes being a dad is a little bit tiring. The savvy reader might notice that I am not posting this until 6:00am the day after Father's Day.  That is because for the last two nights our May flower has decided that she only likes to sleep for an hour at a time, and then be picked up, carried around the house for a lap or two, then put back into bed for another hour.  Translation?: I only slept a couple hours Saturday (thus regretting my decision to hit the cinema and not the sack), so when I sat down to blog last night the screen kept going dark (or my eyes kept shutting) and I decided I better fall in line and sleep during our designated "one hour" sessions.  This plan was a little better (note the italicized word in the sentence), but this dad (with the proverbial post Father's Day hangover) is looking forward to a little nap time today.  I'll leave saying,Yes.  there are tiring moments, but they never outweigh all the fun that Nat and I have being parents to our little girl.

more to come soon,

-Craig-

p.s. sorry so much writing and so few pictures today (what kind of blog is this anyway?)
