Kylie May and A Big Oregon Day 107

Skiing has never been a forte of mine, which means that I am completely uncomfortable out on this slippery slope.  Scattered pictures, short posts, unfinished entries…. Dr. Drew is going to be at my door any day now.  Last night, I committed a blogging cardinal sin.  I practiced irresponsible and unethical blogging.  I fell asleep “at the wheel” so to speak (funny how that happens from time-to-time) and left my post unattended and unfinished.  For my crimes, I am sure I will be reprimanded, and sentenced to 10,000 words apologizing for my iniquity.  My family and I will get through it though, and I’m sure I will come out of this, a changed blogger.

Just like the road to blogging recovery, the road to Oregon proved to have it’s little bumps…but was totally worth it.  Kylie has now officially earned her wings (not her angel’s ones, but at this point she probably deserves those too).  She bypassed security (weapons still in tow), sped down the runway, elevated to 30,000 feet, landed, and then fell fast asleep.  I think I even heard her mutter right before zonking out, “What? Was I supposed to be impressed?”.  I guess next time we’ll have to opt out of Southwest and go for Virgin America J She really did have a good flight though.  Nat said she nursed, laid on the chair next to her to get her diaper changed, and even had a couple smiles. Life in the air was all fun and games for the little miss.

Just because no good road trip would be complete without a significant drive, as soon as Kylie landed, we packed her in the car and hit the highway.  For grandma Carol and I it was just the 3rd leg of 13 hours worth of driving, so we were excited about the short jaunt from Sacramento to Medford.  For Kylie, however, she was a little less thrilled about the prospect of 4 hours in the car.  Considering it is 752 miles from Redlands to Medford, it is nothing short of a road trip miracle that Kylie only had one minor meltdown, and that only came while the car was stopped.  I never had any doubts, but she is such a great baby.

Kylie has been mesmerized so far, by all the sights, sounds, and new faces that Oregon has to offer.  The longest part of the 752 miles was getting Kylie from the front entrance of Great Grandma’s home up to her room.  We happened to arrive during prime dinnertime.  What does that mean? No. We didn’t stop to eat. It means that everyone was sitting in the dining room that we walked by, which is akin to un-caging a field mouse at a tomcat convention. All the resident’s just loved seeing and talking to a little baby.  She has the hair, and now she has entertained like a rock star.  I’m sure if writing was her strength she may have even signed a few autographs.

Once the Red Sea parted and we made it upstairs, it was a great moment getting to introduce Kylie and Great Grandma Jo for the first time.  One is 94 and one is 3 months.  Needless to say there was a bit of a communication gap that can only be attributed to generational differences.  Kylie asked Jo to be her Facebook friend, and grandma brushed off the request and said, “I thought she was going to be bigger”.  After their initial misunderstanding Kylie and Great grandma Jo have had a great time staring at each other and taking pictures together.  Jo has also seemed to enjoy showing off her great grandbaby to all the interested residents.  It’s like the best ever game of show and tell.  (can I even classify that as a game?)

The one thing that the two peas in a pod can definitely agree on this weekend is that bedtime is 8:00.  I guess we have done a great job of wearing them both out (and judging by my last nights blog performance, I have worn myself out pretty good too).  There have been meals, photo sessions, stories, moving watching, and more photo shoots.  More stories are sure to develop tomorrow as we embark on another fun filled Medford Oregon Day.

More to come soon,

-Craig-

p.s. I have learned my lesson.  It’s impossible to create a reasonable length blog if you start missing days.

I think the photo dam finally broke, and all the pictures just came flooding out.

The big introduction

she finally found the thumb...I think there is photo of Nat doing the exact same thing

One of the many fans of Kylie

I think they might still be trying to figure each other out

Even the headband can't contain all that hair

Hairstylist in the future? hmmm...

Uncle Graham proved to be pretty entertaining for miss Kylie

At this point I'm pretty sure Kylie thought she was getting a bite of the flowers

Grandma had to explain why eating the flowers might not be the best idea

Aunt Sue caused some pretty good laughs

Oh who? Me?

Cousin Cam + green bird = curious Kylie

Kylie with Uncle Graham and Aunt Jess...the money behind the fun red zebra PJ's

Sometimes some good ole fashioned kicking is just what the Dr. ordered.
