Kylie May and The Family Together Again Day 95

Like Davinci before Lisa, Michelangelo before Adam, and Picasso before his Starry night, Nat and I are faced with our blank canvas and empty Sistine Chapel, that is, Kylie May.  It has been said many times, and many ways (No not Merry Christmas) that raising children can be difficult.  I am starting to understand why.  Some think it might have to do with, the all night feedings, the unlimited costume changes, overflowing diaper-filled trash bins, hours of rocking and walking, etc. etc......but those are just added bonuses to being a parent.  The real challenge? creating a masterpiece from the blank canvas in front of you.  Our baby is here, ready to be turned into whatever gem (or lump of coal) we create.  Today, we did some painting (probably only water colors).  There was a minor need for some reinforcing of a forgotten concept.  Reinforcing? on a 3-month old? yep.  Today Kylie was reminded that she, indeed, has two parents. "What?" she said.  "That's blasphemy!".  Since our great San Diego trip, this concept has been a little clouded in her, Oh! so impressionable brain. It took a few hours this afternoon (but like "they" say child rearing aint easy) but she finally grasped that Nat and I, are, in fact, supposed to be home together some evenings of the week.  After that was cleared up, she laughed, smiled, giggled, coughed, and even let out a little cry (a cry of joy perhaps). Our only option is to just keep "painting" and hope that the end product can be called artwork. :-).  Sometimes you just have to take comfort and inspiration from those that have gone before you. food for thought: Had Van Gogh given up just because his buddy lopped an ear off, imagine all that the art world would have lost.

...What was all that about?  I'm not sure, it just seemed like fun way to say that I loved getting to spend an afternoon/evening with Kylie and Nat. They are such a joy.  Anyway, Kylie continued to sniffle and cough (tiny little baby fake coughs is all) around the house all day today.  She did, however, also, get to take a fun bath, nap with daddy, smile and kick, swing on her swing, and walk to dinner at mimi and papas, before crashing down like a tree at a lumberjack convention.  She goes to get her second round of immunizations (only one shot) tomorrow, so she definitely needs her rest tonight.

Quick funny story. Kylie has been enjoying cruising around in the backpack that mimi is letting us borrow.  Today Kylie was chomping away on the backpack canvas as she cruised around.  What happened? Nat looked in the mirror and saw Kylie sound asleep with her mouth wrapped around one of the canvas covered bars on the backpack.  the picture says it all.

more to come soon,

A before shot (even if it was from yesterday) makes the "after" just a little better.

I guess when sleep calls she drops everything and answers

some people said our hair was similar.  I just don't see it

That is either a huge swing or a tiny baby.  I just can't decide

mental note: one way to encourage tummy time.  do it it front of the TV (don't worry it was only for 5 minutes)

I just heard her yell, "I will come at you like a spider monkey" and then she was like a rabid animal.  I could not, for the life of me, get her off.
