There's Veruca Salt snotty (You know, "I want a Loompa Loompa Daddy, and I want it NOW!") Lindsay Lohan snotty (let me just get arrested 55 times because I'm a celebrity and I do whatever I want), and then there is Kylie May snotty. Fortunately for us, she is snotty in a more literal definition of the word. She had a pretty rough night last night. Every time we tried to lay her down she couldn't really breath and it sounded like a little piglet was in bed with us. This usually woke her up, and just like the mouse that got the cookie, once she was awake it was time for some milk. One problem. Nursing and breathing required her nose to work. It was pretty frustrating for her, which meant a restless night for us all.
Here's an equation. Restless night + Kylie with a cold + rainy day= Us being Cullen like and locking ourselves in the house for the entire day (for you very literal readers I know the Cullens wouldn't lock themselves inside on a rainy day). It was a sneaky day indoors though. By the time we even realized that we hadn't yet stepped foot outside (except to mule in some firewood) it was 3pm. By that time we were committed and there was no going back. Kylie was still in her PJ's, and the rest of us weren't but a step or two ahead of her in that department.
What did we do? Walked Kylie all over the house (No. Extremely runny noses don't slow her down in the slightest), suctioned the little mucous factories nose out once in a while (she hated it), played multiple games of Catan (this is when Kylie decided to take a 2 hour nap on my chest...highlight of being a dad), played with puzzles, ate (rice/lentil/carrot mixture was today's hit), read books (That's Not My Puppy is the current favorite), and then wrestled, danced, sang, walked, nursed, congo lined, and bounced for two hours trying to get the little engine that could to finally fall asleep.
It was funny watching Grandma Carol and Auntie Melissa pull every dance, aerobic, and step move they had out of their bag of tricks to try and get Kylie May to finally decide she was ready to close her eyes. What they were doing cannot be described, but boy are they talented. Kylie thought so too, and it was plenty to keep her entertained, just not quite what it took to help her fall asleep. It made all of us laugh though. :-)
Tomorrow is the long trek back home. These trips go too quickly.
more to come soon,
Craig

Reading with grandpa can be pretty fun. |
Especially when he doesn't have his glasses and you get to help tell him what it says. |
We figured if we just played opossum no one would even know we were there |
It's all part of this routine we are working on where we mirror each others every move. |
She is quite convincing when it comes to Catan trading |
"Fine. I'd rather eat my card than trade with you clowns." |
Attack of the Kylie. No one is safe |
Especially anyone who sits her up on their shoulders |
Ok. You surrender? Fine I'll ease up a little. |
