All the excitement almost made us later for Kylie's first chiropractor appointment. Today we all got to meet Dr. Dale, he is a chiropractor that specializes in children and promoting wellness through alignment. He treats many different childhood issues including allergies and ADHD. When he told us he and his wife were expecting their third child and they were having a home birth with Karen Baker, I knew we were going to get along just great. First he assessed Kylie, checking for symmetry throughout her body. We talked a lot about her birth, because he said that most of the issues he sees in children are from traumatic births, often because they were pulled out and there is a lot of damage done to their neck and spine. It made me (once again) feel good about the choices we made for Kylie, I am glad I had her at home and so glad I was able to push her out without anyone pulling on her head. So after her assessment he confirmed that her hip was slightly out of alignment. He showed us what he was looking at and it was quite obvious how uneven her little butt was. We decided to have him adjust her while we were there. When you think of chiropractic adjustment you think of funny positions, deep breaths and lots of popping. Adjusting kids is totally different. He simply applied some gentle pressure to the area of her hip that was misaligned. I'm sure it is actually quite complicated, but it seemed smooth and easy. Kylie did so well, she was so patient through his assessment and started to get a little fussy when it was time to be adjusted. Poor girl had been ready for a nap for about 1.5 hours and was not exactly in the mood to be mess with. But we are glad we took her, we go back next week to have her looked at again, sometimes it can take a few appointment to make the adjustment stick, but I am glad we are on our way.
Dr. Dale said that it is common to notice a change in children's sleeping once they have been adjusted. Often they will sleep better, so of course that is what we are hoping for. We are not off to a great start however, Kylie once again decided that she did not want to go to sleep at a normal hour, so after multiple failed attempts to put her to sleep, we were once again up playing, eating and chewing. I think that second top tooth might be to blame, but she is asleep now, so we will see how long it lasts.
More to come soon,
Natalie

Kylie was so relaxed during his assessment, I think she liked the head massage. |

Taking her temperature would have been a little easier if she would have let go of the thermometer |
Kylie thought playing with an orange was oh so much fun.
