Kylie May has some more "firsts" today 220

Just when we think Kylie has mastered the "been there, done that" she goes somewhere new and does something different. Today was one of those days with three distinct "firsts" for our little one.

1) We had an opportunity to go to church this morning (Craig was such a trooper and came home from work and went straight to church), Kylie seemed to be enjoying the sermon, maybe a little too much, she started chiming in. So we decided that we would see how Kylie did with the other kids in the nursery. I used to volunteer to work with the babies every month, the other volunteers are awesome, the toys are fun and there are usually a handful of under-two year olds there. So I took Kylie (the room for the babies is attached to the room we have service in), signed her in, put a little sticker on her back with her name, and received my pager. I gave very strict instructions to page me if she was upset AT ALL, we didn't want her crying, not even for a minute. Like it was something she had done a hundred times, Kylie went to Angie no problem, sat on the floor with a toy in front of her and watched the other 7 kids play. I spent the whole service with a death grip on my pager, constantly checking it to see if it was still working, contemplating going back to "just check on her," it was much worse for Craig and I then it was for Kylie I'm sure. About 40 minutes later, as soon as it was socially appropriate, we bolted from our seats and were successfully the first two parents at the nursery door. When I opened the door Kylie was right where I left her, playing with a couple toys, smiling and watching the activity around her. "She did great," Angie said "she is so observant, she just loved watching the other kids, she didn't make a single unhappy noise." Ironically the only somewhat sad face she made was when she saw Craig and I standing there ready to pick her up, but 40 minutes away had been enough for mommy, I was not ready to have her want to stay and play for longer. We were so glad she had fun. We knew she would, she is so social, she loves other kids and new toys are always fun. It was also great to have her around some other kids that are crawling and walking, I think it's good for her to see other little ones get around, maybe it will inspire her :o) Even though bother Craig and I were extremely anxious, we have to admit it was nice to have a little time just the two of us, we had almost forgot what that was like.

2) She started playing peek-a-boo herself. That's right, we thought it might have been an accident, but after multiple demonstrations at different times throughout the evening, we have decided that she might be the smartest baby ever! Up until this point we have played peek-a-boo with Kylie by putting a blanket over our heads and she will grab it, pull it off and laugh. We will also put the blanket over her head, same thing, she will pull it off and laugh. Today Kylie grabbed the blanket and held it up to cover her face, she waited for a few seconds then pulled it down very fast and smiled. We couldn't believe it, but she did it again, blanket up, wait a few seconds and down it would come, she would look around at all of us and smile. She repeated this over and over, sometimes waiting longer, sometimes peeking out through the side before she would pull it down, sometimes she would get the blanket bunched up so when she held it up we could still see her, but she would still pause and then pull it down with a smile.  There were a few times she would hide and we would continue our conversation, she would just wait, hiding behind her blanket until someone started saying "where's Kylie?" She was so funny, we (my mom, Auntie Caroline and me) could have watched her do this forever. Unfortunately Craig was not there to see it :o( he was sleeping and then headed off for another night of work, we hope she will do it again for him tomorrow.

3) She had her teeth brushed with a real baby tooth brush. Until now we have been running a washcloth over her gums, but since she got her little teeth we have been wanting to actually get in the habit of brushing them. So tonight, while she was playing in the bath, I got out our little finger brush and went for it. She loved it! She thought this new thing was not only great to chew on, but she seemed to really like how it felt along her gums. Yeah! I'm sure we will have teeth brushing challenges in the future, but for tonight it was a success.

Possible number 4, my mom bought what we thought were sweet potatoes, but once cooked they tasted a little different to me, so I am thinking they might have been yams, in which case we added another new food :o) Either that or we have been giving her yams this whole time and now she had sweet potatoes, who knows, I can't tell the difference :o)

More to come soon,
Natalie

Sorry no photos from today, but a few from yesterday...
