Kylie May adventures to Costco today 338

So a quick run down of yesterday...
Kylie and I got up and ready to head out to LA for my friend Liz's baby shower. It worked out perfectly, Craig played with Kylie while I got ready and when it was time to get in the car she was yawning and rubbing her eyes. About 15 min in to the car ride she was fast asleep!! She woke up about 5 minutes before we got there, amazing! We had a great time at the shower, Kylie was the "big girl" there were two other little ones there, both named Connor, one was 3 months and other was 5 months, needless to say Kylie thought they were great but didn't understand why they would not play with her. I thought we timed it perfectly, Kylie ate and played and started to show signs that she was ready for an afternoon nap, so it was the perfect time to get back in the car and drive home, right? Wrong! She was happy for about 10 min, then she started crying, then screaming, then I pulled over and nursed her while she was still in her car seat (at this point she smiled and giggled and acted oh so sweet), then I tell her that I have to drive us home when she is done nursing, she literally looked at me, pulled off let out a very loud cry/yell and went back to nursing. It was like she seriously understood what I told her, crazy. So when she was done I got back in the car and for the next hour I tried everything I could think of to help her calm down, music on, music off, different music loud, mommy singing, mommy talking, daddy on the phone, windows down, snacks, water, every toy in the car, every non-toy in the car, air conditioner on, shoes off, mommy's cell phone playing music... Nothing worked, well nothing worked until I handed her my phone with a photo of herself. Silence, ahhhh. She turned my phone around and around and watched her photos change directions and was completely calm. Now although I was grateful for the break from the crying, I was so sad that my cell phone had to be the answer :o( Now I know how parents get stuck giving their kids electronics to keep them clam. I refuse to be a parent that gives my kid an iPad to play with at the dinner table or in the stroller during a beautiful walk downtown. And before our next road trip I am determined to find an alternative to the cell phone entertainment for Kylie. At least it was not a cartoon or youtube videos, simply a sweet photos of herself, but it still made me sad.

So we made it home with no nap. My hard working husband went above and beyond and had dinner on the table when we arrived. Craig had prepared delicious fish, sweet potatoes and peas, Kylie really liked the fish, yay!! We ate quickly, Craig ran out the door to work and Kylie and I headed in for a bath. Kylie refused to sit in her bath, so we did a quick rinse and went to bed. It didn't take long for those tired eyes to close.

Today we woke up, had breakfast and started getting ready for church, Craig is working with this kids this month :o( so he came home, went to sleep for about an hour then got up to go to church, crazy man! We were going to go with him until Kylie fell asleep in the sling while I was getting ready. So we decided to stay home, until I got a call from church that they needed someone to work in the nursery, then we decided to go again :o) This is the first time we have had to wake Kylie from her nap to take her somewhere, she got about 30 min in before we put her in the car, but we both felt bad. She woke up in a good mood and really enjoyed being at church and playing with the other little girl in the nursery. After church we had a lunch date at Chipolte, Craig went back to sleep and Kylie and I headed to Costco. She fell asleep about 2 min before we arrived so I decided we would just stay in the car and let her sleep. When she woke we headed in, remind me to never go to Costco on a Sunday afternoon again! As if the store itself is not overwhelming enough, add the hundreds of people and about 50 sample stations and it's enough to make your head spin. I ended up in a total fog, looking at things I was not there to buy (including kids clothes, they have some awesome Carters stuff for super cheap, I ended up with a couple things, oops). We eventually made it out and back home, Kylie spent a little time playing while I fixed dinner. Another dinner together as a family and Craig back to work. We are down to 8 more days, I can't wait for him to be home for a couple days, it will be so great!

After Kylie's bath tonight, I blow dried her hair a little. She was not sure what to think at first, but she seemed to enjoy it in the end. We have been reading "Mothers Milk" every night before we nurse her to sleep, she is really enjoying the routine. I put her in bed, propped up on a pillow, I get one of her blankets and put it over her lap (she usually laughs when I do this) then I turn on our bedside lamp, lay down next to her and start reading. Her favorite page is one at the end with a cat and kittens, she gets excited and points to it every time we read the book, I have a feeling we will have to address this love for cats when she gets a little older :o)

A few other things Kylie is doing these days...giving five 5's, she loves it when you shake her hand and tell her "nice to meet you," she enjoys feeding her baby doll with a spoon, drinking out of a straw, walking with her wagon, giving kisses, throwing food off her high chair and opening any door she can find. It's all so fun, I just wish it would slow down, she is growing and changing so fast.

More to come soon,
Natalie

A little recap...

These last two photos were taken today, it was a circus trying to get her to keep the flower on her head (also another thing she loves these days, pulling everything out of her hair, every clip, bow and hair tie, but her bangs are so long she can't see if we don't clip it back, silly girl)
