Jill cooked a great dinner (which Kylie watched us eat with mesmerized eyes) that we all sat outside and ate. It was just the perfect summer evening on the front porch. Kylie's typical dinner routine is to sit in her bumboo at the table (usually right in the middle of the dining room table) as we eat. The problem we have realized is that she is absolutely enamored with food and drink. She unblinkingly stares at each and every bite shoveled into someone's mouth. Nat and I have realized that it is going to be extremely difficult to keep this little one from eating "big people food" for the next 2-3 months. It seems as though we differ in our views on eating, chewing, and swallowing. We take a pretty firm "no teeth, no food, no exceptions" approach, whereas Kylie opts more for the "gums required, teeth optional" stance. The standoff continues....
An after dinner walk to get nitr-ice-cream and a rivoting game of "who can stay awake longer? the red eyed tired baby or the jet lagged exhausted East Coasters" was just about all this little family could muster. Kylie hit the hay first, but Jill and Mike followed shortly behind. Tomorrow Grammy Didi, Uncle Mike, and Auntie Jill all hit the road for the trip back to Porterville, but we are so glad that they all got to come and stay with us for just a bit. It is so fun for Kylie to get to spend some time with her "far-away" grammy, auntie, and uncle. We'll see them again in Cayucos in a week, but it was great to visit with all of them in a little quieter and slightly less rambunctious setting for a bit.
More to come soon,
-Craig-

A good lap and a mouthful of fist is just about enough to make any baby grin. |
