Kylie May and A Big Roll Over Day 120

So far we have taught Kylie a number of good tricks: smile, lay there, grab stuff, swing your arms, kick your legs, etc. It is truly amazing what she will do for a breast milksicle.  Despite a rewards program that makes American Express Black seem pedestrian, Kylie just has not mastered the ancient childhood art of rolling over.  Sure, she has made some valiant attempts, and sure, she has made it on to her belly a time or two when the bed is sunken in her direction, and, she has even gotten on to her belly once during naked time, but a fully clothed turn has eluded her for 4 months (well. almost 4 months).  That all changed today.

Until a few weeks ago (lets say Mother's Day) she was working really hard at rolling over, and we thought a rolly-polly child was in our near future.  It was going to be her best trick, and she knew it. Then an unexpected (at least unexpected to her) phenomenon happened.  She discovered her hands.  She learned that you can chew on them, grab things with them, wave them over your head like you just don't care...all of that.  Since then she has scoffed at the idea of rolling over.  She was always mumbling phrases like, "who needs a mundane thing like rolling when you can play with claws on the ends of your wrist all day?.  As fast as David Beckham changes hairdos, Kylie's whole tune changed.  All of sudden miss epiphany understands that she has a bag big enough to hold more than one trick.  In this duffle of hers, she has decided to once again, add rolling.  Today, I was sleeping, but Nat said she saw Kylie do a full on, real deal, big girl roll over while playing on her mat.  She may have even pulled a combo and used her hands to grab something right after she rolled over.  Wouldn't that be something? a bird in the hand is worth two in the... wait!...or was it two birds with one stone? Oh yeah.  That's it.  She only did it once, but it sure looks like she is feeling comfortable with the ole phalanges thing and is ready to move back to the rock n roll. We might just have a Tazmanian Devil on our hands yet. We'll keep you posted.

Last event of the day was a Redland's Bowl hangout.  She was so tired and fussy on the walk down, but Nat and I thought the music from the guitar players (tonight's act) plus the 5,000 people there would help calm her down.  Seems counter intuitive I know, but worth a shot right?  Sure enough, she flipped the switch and turned to nothing but smiles and coos as soon as she saw the masses.  I guess if you know Nat at all it is no surprise that music and crowds perks miss Kylie May right up.  She loved every minute of the hour we were down there, and then right on cue fell fast asleep on the walk home.  There is just no time to spend in your societal cocoon when you're a social butterfly.

more to come soon,

P.S. We made a trip to Victoria Gardens to have lunch with some of my friends from nursing school. Lisa, Amanda and Allison, it was so great to see you and spend some time catching up, can't wait to do it again soon.

Sometimes you have to build up some courage before a fountain adventure

Our other event of the day.  Victoria Gardens Fountain of Fun.

Sometimes you just have to watch and soak it all on....gulp..."those are some BIG kids"

And sometimes you just dive in...feet first.
