Shamu! Shamu! Shamu!...that was the chant Kylie heard today as she dawned her swimsuit and made her way into the pool for the first time since being born. Turns out everyone wasn't shouting Shamu because they thought she was chunky, it was because they thought it would be fun for Kylie to play on the shallow Shamu step of Tim and Cathy's pool, and wouldn't you know it, Kylie loves to swim. I think she had a little different experience than her first time in a pool, but she seemed to like the novelty of an outdoor pool, wearing a bathing suit, not being attached by an umbilical cord...you know...the usual stuff that kids get excited about. The little guppy was a little hesitant at first, but after a couple seconds with her toes in the water, she was kicking and splashing in a fashion that would have made King Triton proud. At one point she even nursed and fell asleep while still sitting with Nat in about 2 feet of water. Someday I half expect to walk through the door and find her in the bathtub, growing a mermaid tail. The weather was perfect, the water was warm, and it was just a great day. We were having a hoot, until I realized that we had been in the water for about 20 minutes and my phone had been in my pocket the whole time....OOOPPPSS! At the moment I realized it, I had the same emotions that I would if someday this blog decides to completely erase. I hate the prospect of losing irreplaceable memories, from a completely replaceable piece of technology. I guess tomorrow I will test the iCloud's capabilities, although it's a scary thought to think that I have to rely on a virtual cloud. Regular clouds don't seem very stable, let alone a virtual one. I guess the moral of this story is that it was a good thing Nat took all the pictures of Arial...I mean Kylie having pool time this afternoon.
After a quick pit stop, Kylie's publicist reminded her of this evening's scheduled play date. We had dinner plans with some of Mimi and Papa's friends, who happen to have a baby that is 1-month younger than Kylie. It was a neat experience to finally see our little one next to a baby that is actually newer than her. Most of our recent kid encounters (of the third kind) have been with munchkins older than Kylie. Today, it was fun to see our little one actually be the big one. We came to find out that Kylie and Jackson weigh just about the same amount, but Kylie has him by a good 6 inches in height. Get used to it baby girl, you are destined for a life full of towering over the boys, girls, teachers, and skyscrapers. Learn to embrace it though, because being tall is not a bad thing.
Well. Dinner is done, playtime is past, and bed time is beckoning, so I bid you adieu.
more to come soon,
-Craig-
p.s. Road trip to Porterville tomorrow for Quin's high school graduation. Congrats baby sister! We are glad to get to be there, and Kylie can't wait to see what this high school business is all about.
