It's nice to live in a place where you feel safe with the neighbors. When Kylie was first born and we lived in the hood of South Central Los Angeles that was scary. Now that we live here in Redlands though....whewww!....it's so much friendlier.
We did a tour of sorts this morning. First stop. Uta (and her little dog too). She was sitting on her front porch (so was her dog) so we decided to stop by and say hi to her "bow wow". Half an hour later when Papa Gene walked up Kylie was still laughing at the puppy as it tried to lick her face.
Stop two: Papa and Mimi's. Grandma Carol took Kylie over for some morning play/nap time while we worked on getting the back yard all cleaned up (who knew a bunch of dirt could require so much attention).
Stop three: Matt and Undy's house next door to see Michele, Sarah, big Kylie (their nanny), and Grandpa Ron (Matt's dad). Only a little stop over to say hi, but later Ron stopped by with Michele so Kylie and her could have a little front yard play time.
Stop four: The neighbors on the corner (Jare, Sai, Zane, and Izzy). For this one, our little slugger threw a baseball around (yes a real one), watched the big boys play catch, hit whiffle balls, and ride their bikes). Little May flower was pretty determined to be involved with anything ball related. How determined? Well she screamed every time someone other than her decided to hold the ball for longer than a nano second. As soon as they gave the ball back? Nothing but smiles.
Stop five: Lance and his rototiller. We are trying to level out all the dirt in our back yard, and we knew our neighbor right behind us has a twelve year old son who loves to rototill, so.....we asked for some help. Help came, and his name is Lance. He (and his parents) came over for a little while to till up some land. Lance and Kylie are buddies, but unfortunately, our little social butterfly happened to conk out before this last encounter. She was, however, pretty excited (at least we like to think she was) when she found out that the roto master was over for a while.
Needless to say the neighborhood crawl lasted from Kylie up to Kylie down, which means I get to watch a tired little pumpkin tonight while Nat works. We did do one "Nat unapproved" thing tonight, and I'm going out on a limb by writing it. The water was running and the bath was almost ready when we saw it. A cricket, and it was hopping around OUR bathroom. I wanted to see how Kylie would respond to the little jumper so I picked it up and put it down next to her. Was she scared? Did she scream and hide? No chance! She looked at me with a "Dad is this for real" kind of way, smiled, and started chasing the little guy. She actually picked him up twice, before he managed to hop to the safety of a corner. Had the bath not intervened, the little biologist might still be crawling all over this house chasing her jumping buddy.
The night is still young, but I'm getting old so off to bed I go.
More to come soon,
Craig
