Your favorite TV show? Yep. Unless your are the, "I DVR the whole season first and then watch them all in a day" type, you have to wait a whole week for the next episode. Your favorite holiday (In our family beach week counts)? yeah. Only comes once a year. If your the leap year fanatic? well. sorry, only once every four years. Then there are the once in a lifetime scenarios. You know. lunar eclipse, solar eclipse, lunar-solar eclipse, Pluto rotating around the sun while the man on the moon spins some plates on his head. All that good stuff. That is exactly what Cooper experienced today. Not the cosmic stuff, but riveting once-in-a-lifetime nonetheless. Ok maybe it was once in a generation, but that seems a little technical to me so I'll just leave that line blurred. The Redlands Bowl has been operational for 91 years. Yep, my dad was just a school aged boy when it all started, but he'd tell you it felt like yesterday. In that time span they have only cancelled a show because of weather once....until today. Today was number 2 and Cooper lived long enough to see it. Saying he was amazed is nothing less than a gross understatement, but...ah....as is often the case, words, as unsubstantial as they are, are all we have.
Rain? In August? In Redlands? I have a video camera rolling outside, because I want to sell the footage of pigs flying to a major news network. Cha Ching! Cooper hasn't had much experience with the H2O from above, but he had some time with it today. Since it was the final day of the "Hairspray" musical we decided to sit front row. That meant going down early (10am), laying blankets out, checking on them from time to time, and then getting down to the show a couple hours before it started to make sure that no blanket robbers had attacked. Nat got both kids ready and down to the bowl by a little after 6:00 (show didn't start till 8:00) with no umbrella and a stroller packed down like a 1980 Chevy station wagon. After borrowing an umbrella, listening to Coop fuss about continuously being pelted in the head with water, Kylie asking when the show was going to start, and me trying to feed everyone dinner, the lady came on the mic and said "Sorry, but the show has been postponed until tomorrow night." All we could do was laugh. It would have made the Griswolds proud.
In the middle of all that, Coop and Kylie got to have some fun swimming at Kerry and Kyle's today. I know swimming and rain all in the same day. What is this? Hawaii? Tomorrow will bring another opportunity to watch "Hairspray" front and center, so lets see how it all ends up.
More to come soon,
Craig
Kylie has really been enjoying taking photos (selfies) when friends are around. She told us that she wanted a photo with all of us making funny faces before Liz and Dave left yesterday.
And this morning she wanted one with Coopie, her and I making silly faces before we got out of bed.
All the rain made Kylie's hair so curly, she had little ringlets everywhere, so pretty. Also notice, she had her bow on the top of her head, just like Tracy. She had us call her Tracy for a good part of the day today.

When you can't watch the play...yep, you have a picnic in the living room and watch the movie. Kylie made it through about half the movie before starting to play doctor while we watched. She also asked so many questions during the movie that I felt like I was talking through the entire thing, "where Tracy go?" "Where her daddy and mommy?" "what they doing now?" "Why everyone dancing?" "Where everyone going?" "Why her hair like that?" "What she wearing?" "Where Tracy go?"...
Sad selfie because Liz and Dave had to leave.
She did not want to wake up from her 3 hour nap today, she kept turning and putting her hands like this.
Our living room picnic.
Yesterday Mish came over for some play time and reading books.
All ready to go to the bowl, she insisted that we call her Tracy since she had her bow, skirt and fancy shoes on.
Many uses for my wonderful woven wrap, yesterday it was used to make a spot for all the kids in the car, Kylie took them to Hawaii. We later added the buggy full of pretend food, doctor kit, and diaper bag and also the little wagon for her pet raccoon, it was a big trip.
Resting while we got the picnic arranged, I just love all those curls.
