Kylie is 2 (and 15 days)! Baby Johnson 30 weeks and 5 days

Craig walked Kylie to sleep tonight so I am having a moment to update our blog. I can't express how sad I am that it is so long between posts, I hope I can get in to a better routine soon.

Let's start with this new little baby in my tummy... I have been going to my appointments with Karen every 4 weeks. Things are looking good. Right now the baby is breech but we are not concerned, there is still pleanty of time for him or her to turn around. It is an interesting feeling for me though. Kylie was head down very early so I always felt her legs and feet doing most of the moving. With this baby I can actually lay on my back and feels it's little head, I can literally grad it and move it around. It is a really interesting and fun, but then I wonder if I am poking the poor baby in the eye or squeezing its nose or mouth, I guess we will find out if it comes out looking a little funny. It has also been weird to feel so much kicking down low, more then once I have had to fun to the bathroom after a little kick to the bladder. I am also experiencing more feelings of fullness and the beginning stages of heart burn. I never felt that way with Kylie, but once again I think it was because her head was very low really early on. I am trying to do my exercises everyday and making sure I eat healthy, easier said then done this time around, but I still hope the baby is getting everything it needs to grow strong and healthy. I am emotionally feeling a little overwhelmed by the thought of having another baby and I am wondering how I will ever love another child as much as I love Kylie. I know these are common thoughts and fear and I have been told by many older, wiser women that I will be ok and when the new baby comes I will have just as much love without loosing any love for Kylie. I am looking forward to that part.

Craig and I have starting to prepare for the new baby in a couple ways. We just invested in a stroller that can be converted in to a double stroller. We love it! We never invested in a great stroller with Kylie, we were never sure how much we would use one or if we really wanted a nice one. Now that we know we will use it everyday (walking downtown, to the library, the coffee shop, etc.) we were willing to invest in a good stroller and we are so happy we did. Kylie loves it too, she has been asking to take rides in her new "strol strol" for the past 2 days. We also just bought a new car seat, can't believe there will be 2 in the back seat soon. We moved the crib in to the guest room, that's right, everyone is more then welcome to come stay but the baby is staying with you! ;o) we never really used the crib with Kylie but we decided we wanted separate napping spaces for the new baby and Ky.

Which brings me to Kylie... 15 days ago she turned 2! AHHHHH. Of course she has been acting like a 2-year-old for some time now, but it is weird for it to be official. The day before her birthday we went to the store and she picked out plates, napkins, streamers, balloons and candles. We then headed to Michelle's Bakery where she picked out a strawberry cake. We had been talking about her birthday all week and all she said she wanted to do was eat cake and ice cream and blow out candles. Easy enough.

On her birthday we put her in her "birthday princess" shirt, went to church and then headed to Target to get her some "big girl" sheets for her new "big girl" bed. Once we moved the crib we decided fold a twin sized mattress on the same place and make it Kylie's new napping space. She was so excited to pick out her own sheets, she chose very cute ones with horses on them. Then we headed home so she could take a nap before her little party. A few days before her birthday we decided to invite a couple of her little friends over for cake and ice cream. So while she slept I decorated the living room and dinning room with streamers and balloons, Craig prepared a few little snacks and we were ready for a little party when she woke up.

It was a full little house my grandparents came with Aunt Trudy, Melissa, Undi and Mish from next door, Tabatha, Darin, Portia and Niko from down the street and Emily and Liam. The kids had fun playing together and us parents enjoyed the little bits of conversation we could get in. When it was time for cake and ice cream we put Kylie in her chair at her little table and placed the cake in front of her. She immediately blew out the candles and got up. We didn't have time to sing one word of Happy Birthday. So we tried again. We sat her down and all started singing and she instantly started crying. We sang to her about 5 times already that day, we figured it would make it easier, but nope, she was so upset. I held her and once the song was over we convinced her to blow out her candles again. Only one minor problem, little did I know she had picked out trick candles. Poor girl was trying so hard to blow out candles through her tears and snot and they just kept relighting. Massive fail for us parents. She recovered and enjoyed eating her cake and ice cream then decided to take the party outside and lead the other kids on a walk around the neighborhood. I had to work that evening so she got to spend the night with her daddy.

The next day we put together her new bed. She likes to call it her couch because it is folded up and looks more like a couch then a bed. She loves her sheets and blanket and has been taking naps in her new bed ever since we put it together. She has even been sleeping in it for at least part of the night. The bed is very close to our bed, we can see her and she can see us, but it has still been nice to have even a couple hours without her kicking us. I nurse her to sleep in her bed, she will wake around 12:30, I either pat her or nurse her back to sleep, she will wake again around 3:30, same thing, then she wakes around 5:30 at which point she usually asks to come to our bed and we are happy to have her. She nurses, falls back to sleep and we often sleep in until 7:30 or 8. It has been a really easy transition, I was worried since she has always slept with us, but she loves sleeping in her big girl bed which is great. I have no doubt she will want to be back in our bed more when the new baby comes, but we bought a king size bed for that very purpose.

Kylie has been saying and doing some funny things...
-hold a little book and turns the pages as if she is reading it, but between every page turn she brings her had to her mouth and clears her throat twice. Don't know where she got it, but we love it.
-She will go to her pretend kitchen and say "what you want from my kitchen mommy?" her favorite thing to make me is a cappuccino.
-she often talks on her fake phone, usually describing what everyone is doing "mommy just got home from yoga, (pause) Marta home from yoga too, (pause) Daddy in the kitchen, (pause) ya just hanging out, what you up Tim?" then there is a pause, some nodding and a couple fake laughs before she hangs up the phone.
-Kylie often pulls out her phone (i.e. pulls her hand up from her side and looks at her palm) "want to see picture on my phone mommy?" sure I say, then she pretends to scroll through photos by swiping her finger along her palm every once in a while stopping, turning her hand around and saying "look this one" with a laugh, "want to see more mommy?" We can spend a good amount of time looking at her "photos" I have just learning to always ask what I am looking at and not try to guess.
-she still asks us to tell her "one day" stories all the time, but we have also started playing another game. "I'm thinking of an animal" we tell her, then we go on to describe an animal "it's big and lives in the water, it has a fin on its back and lots of teeth, we saw some of these at Sea World", "shark!" she says and we move on to the next animal. It is fun, especially when she is trying to give us the hints, we never seem to guess correctly.
Kylie is able to sing her entire ABC's, she even slows down and says L M N O P perfectly. oh and dont forget "now I know my ABC's, next time won't you sing with me." She also loves to sing Twinkle Twinkle (she knows every word), The Rainbow song from story time, Rock-a-bye Baby and many of the words to Maria from the Sound of Music.

She has had a weird rash since we got home from Hawaii, we have not been able to figure it out, but we took her to the chiropractor last week and it actually looks like it is getting better, yay.
She loves taking a bath, she calls herself a mermaid in the water.
She also started doing somersaults on our bed last week, she is getting better and better every day.

There is so much more to say, but my time is up.
Here are a few birthday photos...
-Natalie
