We made it to Hawaii and back, and boy was it a wonderful trip. We had to get up at about 4:30am to get out of the house and to LAX in time for our flight. Kylie was up at 5, didn't sleep during the 1.5 hour car ride, then decided that being on an airplane was way to exciting, so she didn't sleep for the 5.5 hour flight. Craig and I were both so tired, we thought for sure she would sleep a little, so we would nap too, but nope! We took a shuttle to the hotel, during which Kylie stood up and very loudly said "Aloha," we were proud. Then we got to the hotel and still a nap was not part of the plan, but eventually we all got a chance to rest our heads for a little bit.
Quick belly update... I am 27 weeks and 2 days, the baby has started moving a lot more, yay. My belly button is still out of control, but I decided that it would probably be cuter if it was tan, so I spent the week trying to tan my poor belly button :o) We see Karen on Tuesday, Kylie is already talking about how excited she is for the appointment. I am more uncomfortable this time around then I was with Kylie and I am already considering taking a little time off before my due date. I am hopeful that this baby will wait until June, but I have a feeling it might come a little early and I want to feel like I got some good time to rest and hang out with Kylie before our world changes :o)
Here are a handful of the photos from the week...
Kylie having some snacks before we got on the plane to Hawaii.
Oh look at that airplane!
The view from our room, we were on the 6th floor, the pool and deck you can see is the 3rd floor. We had breakfast sitting by the pool almost every morning and enjoyed the live music and hula dancer.
Our second day, Kylie was enjoying the water with Papa.
Sad faces when we found out we could not go in the water because of the jellyfish. We still spent a little time at our beach before my parents picked us up and we headed to the east side to enjoy the water without jellyfish. While we were still at the beach we saw one jellyfish, it was about 4 inches and very hard to see. From then on she asked us every time she went close to the water "jellyfish right here?"
Our longest beach day was Sunday with my parents on the east side of the island. The sand was wonderful and the water was perfect! We enjoyed a lunch down on the sand and even stopped for Shave Ice on the way home.
Kylie wanted to pet every dog we saw, this one she actually spent some time with, I love this picture because it looks like she and the dog have exactly the same expression.
The next day we went to the Zoo, twice! We got up, head breakfast then made the not-so-long walk across the street to the Zoo. We paid the entrance fee, rented a stroller and headed to see some fun animals. Within 30 min Kylie was wanting to nurse and totally over it. She said she wanted to go back to the hotel and take a nap. So we turned in the stroller, hoped they would give us a stamp so we would not have to pay again, and we walked back across the street. Sure enough she fell asleep right away and after a 2.5 hour nap, was in a much better mood for the Zoo.
This photos was our first attempt at the zoo, she was watching some monkeys swing back and forth, she thought it was so funny.
The monkey she was watching.
Telling daddy how the monkey was swinging from his arms.
The next exhibit with a little family of three monkeys was fun until they all disappeared in to a little hole. Where did they go? Then they came back with little snacks. This is one of the many Hawaii stories that Kylie tells over and over.
Take two at the Zoo...possibly her favorite part. Getting to milk a cow and touch it's "nahnies." She was so excited, it made us think that maybe she needs to live on a farm.
The zoo had a great jungle gym in the middle of it, she was so proud of herself for being able to hang like a monkey.
This beautiful tree was right outside the entrance to the zoo.
We headed to Duke's for a wonderful dinner and we also got to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
The dinner was wonderful and so was the company.
Our last day on the beach, Kylie eating a granola bar and just hanging out with her mommy :o)
Enjoying the water even though there was a small chance we might still see a jellyfish, Kylie was very cautious.
Our attempt at a family photo on the beach, not an easy task to balance my camera without it getting covered in sand :o)
Our last Hawaii sunset from the delicious restaurant located under our hotel. After dinner we asked Kylie what she wanted to do..."walk on beach, go to ABC store, go on escalator and elevator," so we did.
during our walk on the beach we came upon a hula show. We found a seat, made ourselves comfortable and just then the show was over, everyone cheered and got up to leave :o(
At least get got a quick photo with the hula dancer before we left.
By the end of our trip Kylie seemed like she was a 5 year old trapped in an almost 2 year old body. She was able to tell us what hotel was ours, point out her letter "K" on the hotel Waikiki sign, take the escalator up to the third floor where she then used our hotel key to scan and enter our floor number. Then we get off the elevator and she knows where our room is, crazy. She got more and more comfortable visiting with people and asking their name. And she got very good at watching the street crossing signals and telling us when the "man walking" sign was up and we were able to go and when there was "hand blinking" which meant we needed to finish getting across and the "stop hand, don't go yet."
We had such a wonderful time, it was amazing to spend a week as a family. It was obvious how much Kylie enjoyed having us all together everyday. We are already talking about wanting to make another trip next year with the new little one and it only made us more excited about Johnson Beach Week this summer. When we told Kylie that we had to go home she simply said "no, I stay here." Exactly how Craig and I felt as well too.
Our flight home was great, Kylie slept for a little over an hour and was completely pleasant the rest of the time, it was a little hard having her in our laps the whole time, but I think part of that is because I already had a baby in my lap for the trip :o) I'm sure there is more to say about our wonderful trip, but Kylie is about to wake up so I am out of time.
Aloha,
Natalie

26 weeks one day and headed to Hawaii
I can't believe it is the middle of February already! Kylie will be 2 in less then one month! AHHHHH and I am past the midway point with this second baby, time is going by way way to fast. The baby is moving all the time and my belly is getting nice and big. I am more uncomfortable this time around, it probably doesn't help that Kylie often wants me to carry her everywhere and she is not exactly a small kid. I feel like I am carrying this baby slightly different then I did Kylie, maybe it's jsut second baby stuff, but I have gained a lot more weight in my love handles and hips, I feel like I look pregnant from the front and back this time :o) Maybe it's a boy :o) Just found out today that my good friend Janisha is having a boy, just 6 weeks behind me, I am so excited for her. Kerry is having a girl 4 weeks ahead of me, yeah! And Amy is being surprised, she is due March 10th. So many babies this year, I can hardly wait.
In an attempt to take advantage of being able to have Kylie fly for free (for 3 more weeks), we decided we would take a trip to Hawaii! We leave early in the morning and we could not be more excited. Kylie was acting like she was getting sick earlier today, but after a 3.5 hour nap she seemed to be feeling better, thank goodness. We got her a very cute "Scootcase" to take on the plane, it is a carry-on suitcase that is shaped like a little scooter, she can actually ride it around the airport, so fun! We have also loaded up on the summer clothes and swimsuits, but I think Craig and I are most looking forward to having some time together. It has been very busy at Craig's work and he has been picking up extra shifts, we are both teaching clinicals and I am still working one night a week, teaching at the BI and doing photos shoots here and there. It will be wonderful to spend some time just hanging out together.
Craig and I attended an awesome, one-night marriage conference on Valentines Day. The speaker was Kurt Cameron and he talked a lot about the movie Fireproof and how to make marriage better. It was a 4 hour event with good music and great company. Our friends Niels and Marisa watched Kylie for us, she did really well and enjoyed playing with the big girls. Of course one of her favorite things was trying on all there dress up princess shoes.
Kylie update
-She can sing her entire alphabet with only missing 1-2 letters
-She can say "I love you" with both hands in sign language
-Count to 20, but she often misses 15-17
-When you ask her what she will say when we get to Hawaii, she responds "Aloha"
-Loves to sing Twinkle Twinkle, she knows all the words
-She still loves to watch the Alan you tube video and can how repeat many different parts, her most recent favorite line to recite is "Oh that is rank, (I have to) go lay down."
-She likes to chew "floss gum" which is literally a piece of floss that she balls up and pretends is gum
-We watched Sesame Street for the first time about 1.5 weeks ago, she loved it, she only likes one episode when Snuffy Sneezes, so we have seen it many times now
-Almost every morning and evening she asks to Facetime Doe and Lala
-She loves having her nails painted, either pink or green
-Her favorite meal time activity is to hear "One day..." stories, she prompts us by saying "One day..." and waits for us to fill in the blank
-Just today she said something very silly, she was looking at a very small sticker, one that had come off some clothes, she went to her Lamb purse, got her sun glasses, put them on and said "wear glasses, I see better," and preceded to inspect the tiny sticker.
-She take the Lamb purse with her everywhere, right now it contains two hair ties, a pink and white bow, two chap-sticks (which she regularly applies), a package of floss, her amber necklace, Abby (a tiny doll), a little race car man, sunglasses and medical gloves. She is prepared for anything!
There is so much more to say but it is late and tomorrow morning will come quick. I am hoping to get some great photos in Hawaii and post them when we get back.
More to come soon,
-Natalie
